La Chinafrique : Pékin à la conquête du continent noir - Michel Beuret
- In french. First published in 2008.
By hundred of thousands, obeying the words from Hu Jintao "get out", the Chinese are rushing into Africa. For the worse some times, for the better too. In exchange with raw materials which the African soil is bursting with (oil and gaz, steel, uranium, wood, fishes), the Middle Kingdom develops Africa and leads it into the mondialisation. Beijing is seducing a lot of dictators - not asking any offensive conditions - with low cost products, which are clearly making their effect in those poor countries which are so dependant on western products.

I became both afraid for Africa and hopeful, as things are being made, implemented in fast and (more) efficient ways, while the country's richness are still being ripped from them. May Africa one day become more structured and disciplined one day, because of China? ...
