Le ghetto français - Eric Maurin
- In french. First published in 2004.
The problematic of urban segregation in France is not limited to a few hundred of devastated areas doomed for failure and poverty. Those are only the most visible consequence of the separatist tensions which are tearing the society apart, beginning with its elite. The phenomena is quite worrying as when compartmentalizing the present, the territorial fractures are also narrowing the future of the individuals and are pushing them toward written in advance social destinies.
-> Quite interesting book giving new perspective on things. Indeed the "pushing" domino effet, where one (upper) frange of the society is fighting against not becoming part of, or being mixed with, the other (lower), where studies have shown which positive (upward) effects uncompartmentalizing social structure and traits can bring, shows that chance are not equal from start and that the so-called "social-lift" (ascenseur social in French) is quite though to board indeed. Food for thoughts.
