Globalia - Jean-Christophe Rufin
- In English. First published in 2004.
The universe of Jean-Christophe Rufin could be that of a New World. A compartmentalized democracy, governed by a calendar where each day has its value, dressed in glass bubbles, ensuring a pleasant and ideal temperature throughout the year; indicators in social protection services where dominate psychologists and officers; the will to perpetuate the existence; ad infinitum prosperity for all and everyone in step. In short, apparently it could get worse! But then, this new world, calibrated, measured, studied, leading to boredom. It banishes the past, it monitors the thoughts, controls the outputs of the territory. This is the price and the back of the uniformism.
-> A bit disappointed as the book goes in length without providing more than a long endless story. I was expecting something more thrilling, yet the book brings with it some thoughts about what could tomorrow be made of... which is scaring/challenging enough.
